Al Shibriya embodies memory, inspired by my grandmother›s stories of life in Shindagha, Dubai, during the 1970s. When I learned about my great grandfather sleeping on a Shibriya, I asked, “Didn’t you sleep on the floor?” She replied, “Oh yes, we did. He was one of the lucky ones.” This piece captures a fleeting nostalgia I felt compelled to preserve. As a designer, I reimagine furniture from our Shindagha home, with Al Shibriya featuring a backrest and pillow, artfully tied with braided rope in honor of my grandmother, whose stories flowed as freely as her hands braided our hair.
