The Internship Journal: Day Nine & Ten

Day Nine

The week has gone by quite quickly, I think that happens when you get into a rhythm and don’t feel time pass by. The work I have been doing feels like an extension of myself but modified to fit the requirements of the client and the firm. It seems like they have taken a liking to the work I’ve provided so far, so I’ve been assigned to choose materials and furniture for the rest of the project and present it to the client next week. Nothing much to note today - just worked, Blaz checked in, suggested I take a break from furniture and switch to lighting. This way, when I go back to the mood board I can see it with fresh eyes and make amendments as required.

A rough mood board, do I like it? Eh.

Day Ten

Fridays always start with a pep in my step, although I’ve got a lot of work today and I can’t wait to not think about bed frames clashing with chandeliers this weekend. Yesterday, Blaz suggested I start thinking about the bed in the master bedroom and include all the stylistic choices in the mood board. It is overwhelming, knowing the client is picky and that Blaz himself has already done a rough idea of the space - I decided to scratch what he did entirely and start with a blank space. This way, the step by step method ensured that each element was thought of and fits perfectly within the space. I learned that steps like these are overlooked by the architects as they include basic furniture and place it within the space, but I believe it needs more attention as the client will directly respond to these elements and we have the control as to how the client can respond.
