The Internship Journal: Day Four

I broke up with Photoshop. Briefly.
On Tuesday, I was assigned the Master Bathroom. Blaz was very excited, showing me what he had in mind but also being open to my ideas and how it can improve. He guided me first by showing me ways in which I can search for materials and even contact suppliers to get samples. Encouraging me to use Photoshop, (as they have seen my portfolio and encourage me to explore in that way) I started putting materials I thought would go together. After lunch, Blaz checked in and wanted to teach me how he chooses materials and puts them together, so we headed to the open meeting space, which was home to all of the samples in the firm. He started pulling out all the materials he was suggesting to use in the space, and I started to do the same, only to find out the materials I had matched together in Photoshop did not match at all in reality. He showed me how he experiments with different materials, in the shade, in the sun, and how they change being placed next to other materials. It was eye opening because I had always overlooked the mood board not thinking much of it, but here I find myself spending hours in a room, discovering materials that shouldn’t make sense together theoretically, but match perfectly in reality. I found some materials which were my favorite and went back to the computer to search for more materials and order some samples. It was important for me to familiarize myself with local suppliers, in this case, Glaze. I had contacted them and requested for samples before the end of my shift.
